Samsung has never been shy to let people know when they have something good up their sleeves. With their enormous product portfolio, brand status and willingness to spend billions of dollars in advertising, it is no surprise that the official launch of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9 + is nothing short of spectacular.
Held at the prestigious Grand Hyatt Manila and hosted by the lovely and lively Ms. Georgina Wilson and Solenn Heussaff, it was the sort of classy evening you would expect from the mobile giant’s flagship launch. They, along with photographer BJ Pascual are ambassadors for the Galaxy S9 and S9+. There was a huge number of people from the media, retail partners and influential people. They even held a raffle for the attendees where they more than happy to give out 5 Samsung Gear Sport watches which we reviewed here, and both Samsung S9 and S9+. We attended the event and here are some things we wanted to share with you.
Samsung is not planning to reinvent the wheel here; they just want to make things incrementally better.
Honestly that is not a bad thing and it says a lot about their commitment to consumers. It takes great discipline to hold off on throwing unproven innovation, keep what works and refine them with thoughtful add-ons. That’s exactly what Samsung did. If it ain’t broke, just make it better. We know they are capable of churning out innovation after innovation but what they focused on is the user experience. An easier dependable camera to use, a more fun way to communicate with AR Emoji, IP68 water and dust resistance, a more efficient wireless charging and a more intelligent device overall. The rest like unbelievable screen, infinity display, unparalleled build quality, useful software features, color options, accessory options and that intangible connection you get when you hold the device are all a given with Samsung – that’s why they are easily one of the strongest brands in the country. All is great, they just aimed for greater.
We are already familiar with what Samsung can do, they just want to make sure we get to love what they offer even more.
This was supported by insightful presentations of Mr. Jerry Manus – Business Unit Head for IT and Mobile of Samsung Electronics Philippines, Mr. Ivan Pua – Product Marketing Head for IT and Mobile and Ms. Lea Cua – Product Marketing Manager for Flagship Smartphones. Each one highlighted the improved features of the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. But more importantly, you can feel their excitement in bringing these powerhouse devices to the Philippine market. They even did live demos of the super slow motion capabilities for video recording, surprising low light performance of the cameras, information rich features of the map app, more immersive speaker set up, and the unbelievably quick process of creating your own AR Emoji. All of which they feel can help make day to day tasks easier and more fun for the Filipino user. And much to my delight, a very welcome stereo speaker set up and the resurgence of the headphone jack.
Samsung’s best device feature is now even better.
Both the Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ are now equipped with a Super Speed Dual Pixel 12MP rear camera with Dual Aperture lens which supports F1.5 and F2.4 modes and automatically switches between various lighting conditions to get the best amount of light and detail given any situation. The S9+ however kicks it up a notch with its additional 12MP Telephoto camera with AF sensor. Both sport 8MP front shooters with F1.7 Aperture for those perfect selfies. The Galaxy S9 has Optical Image Stabilization and the S9+ has Dual Optical Image Stabilization.
The night capped off with a stellar performance by Philippine rock icon Ely Buendia who dropped hit after hit as the crowd sang along. It was a memorable evening only a big name like Samsung can pull off. Officially available on March 16, 2018, with great color options- midnight black, coral blue and the elegant lilac purple which really caught my eye. They also come in different storage sizes with expandable memory. Samsung has another winner here and we can’t wait to get the devices on our hands so we can give you a full experience review.
