Nokia’s comeback flagship the Nokia 8

Remember the Nokia of old? It’s making a comeback with the same ZEISS optics we have come to love from the line of Lumias. Tell all sides of the story with Nokia OZO spatial 360° audio optimized to capture real-time live streaming.

Introducing the Nokia 8

The new home of Nokia, HMD Global, has been making waves in reintroducing a brand well-loved by generations. Their latest model, the Nokia 8, is expected to arrive this September with user-centric features in tow focused on content creators.

Nokia calls it a “Bothie” where they are enabling Dual-Sight video recording for live streaming in real-time. What this does is basically allow both front and rear facing cameras to be active in a split screen visual for a more immersive experience to your audience. It comes into play with relative usefulness in some scenarios that allow a more creative take on the usual singular video recording.

Nokia 8 will also be the first smartphone to carry Nokia OZO audio that captures pseudo surround sound to supplement you 4K videos and your bothies to boot.

Design

It’s properly crafted, too, taking cues from Nokia 6, the 8 has a seamless unibody design derived from a single block of 6000 series aluminum, anodized, and polished to great standards. Select models feature a high-gloss mirror-like finish for those that want the smooth and glassy look.

The 8 features Qualcomm’s powerful SnapdragonTM 835 Mobile Platform and paired with the pure, secure and up to date Android experience ensures outstanding performance.

Packed with Qualcomm® Quick ChargeTM 3, you’re sure to get your phone up and running in the soonest possible time when you’re too busy to think about plugging your phone in the night before.

“We know that fans are creating and sharing live content more than ever before, with millions of photos and videos shared every minute on social media. People are inspired by the content they consume and are looking for new ways to create their own. It’s these people who have inspired us to craft a flagship smartphone which perfectly balances premium design, an outstanding experience and powerful performance,” said Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global

Vanilla Android

It’s still rare for phones to forego adding their customized skins keeping your Android phone stock, or “vanilla”, to let your phone run on full capacity and keep it optimized. It is nice to see Nokia taking the pure Android experience paired with monthly security updates to keep you safe and up-to-date.

Availability

Nokia 8 will be available in four colours: Polished Blue, Polished Copper, Tempered Blue and Steel and will be available at a global average retail price of €599 with roll out throughout September.

That’s somewhere around Php40,000 (before taxes) for a true flagship phone. We have yet to get our grubby hands on the device so stay tuned.
