We got to attend Live to Move – The FitFil National Weight Loss Challenge Closing Party last December 3, 2017 at the SM by The Bay in Pasay City.
I have never been a fitness junkie but I have always been aware that it is important not to overlook the little things when it comes to our health. Like combining a little exercise with a more conscious eating habit. Although we must all admit that these little things are the easiest to forget and the hardest to implement. We all love that extra cup of rice, that extra slice of cake or that extra pack of chips. Since I spend most of my time indoors, the extent of my workout is taking my dogs out for their afternoon walk.
Lo and behold, FitFil has given me a valuable fitness wake-up call which will change my lifestyle habits for the better.
Spearheaded by Coaches Jim and Toni Saret, the Fit Filipino Movement is calling for healthier lifestyle and to create millions of Fit Filipinos by 2020. Having been coaches for the reality show The Biggest Loser Philippines Season 2, we can all agree that this is something they are truly passionate about.
This is the biggest fitness initiative the country has ever had. Outpouring support came from different walks of life from The Philippine Medical Association, fitness and wellness institutes, Local Government Units, private companies, BPOs, the National Youth Commission, the Philippine National Police and over a hundred more partners who believe that this is a program that the Filipino people can really get into.
The aim of the program is to encourage Filipinos to collectively lose 1 million lbs. which, according to the latest count, has hit a little over 900,000. “The response has been truly overwhelming”according to the coaches. “Good job Pinoys! This really shows that when Filipinos get on board for a good cause, we always exceed expectations. The partner participants are also pledging to lose more pounds as the program goes along because FitFil won’t stop here – 2018 will be an even bigger year with even bigger programs in store.”
It’s even more inspiring to see so many passionate Filipinos sharing a common goal. People were all smiles and the energy was simply electric. There were amazing demos and performances from teen dance troupes to cheering squads to choreographed routines from senior citizens who defied age and time. I actually envied their energy because I was running out of breath by simply walking from the parking lot to the venue. Reality check.
This is actually what the program is about. To educate and remind all of us that we can do it and we can do it now. We can improve our lifestyle and by doing so we can have an improved overall quality of life. That there is a better way we can get the most out of life and we can get more energy to reach our goals.
One of the biggest supporters of the movement is FWD Insurance which is one of the country’s fastest and most innovative insurance companies. Headquartered in BGC, aside from offering not only flexible and relatable insurance, FWD is focused on making Filipinos Set for Health. Together with their fresh approach to the insurance industry and partnering with FitFil, they aim to show us that they are committed to taking care of us Filipinos. As the official insurance partner of the Philippine Basketball Association, FWD even brought in some surprise special guests: basketball stars Ryan Arana, Asi Taulava and Sean Anthony who shared their secret to staying active and fit – sleep and exercise. Why are the simple things always the hardest right? Don’t worry, FitFil and FWD aim to make these simple things a solid habit for us Filipinos because their aim is to “get everyone fit and well so Filipinos can really celebrate life.”
FWD Life Philippines, with their brand tagline “Get Ready to Live!” has been advocating a healthier overall Filipino lifestyle since the launch of the Live to Move program in 2015 and at the rate it’s growing, we can only expect greater things. Along with the help of GeiserMaclang, a premiere Marketing firm in the Philippines, the FitFil National Weight Loss Challenge and the Live to Move program will certainly educate a lot of Filipinos and bring them together for this health initiative.
I hope that like what the event did for me, this will encourage you to take a few minutes off everyday and take that small extra step for a longer and healthier life. As the coaches said, it doesn’t take a lot, just a small ounce of commitment to do something truly beneficial for yourself. I believe it’s time for me to take that mint smartwatch out of the box and start logging those health activity hours. If health is indeed wealth, then my aim should be to become filthy rich. I hope that goes for you guys as well.
