Catch Arsenic and Old Lace Onstage!

Repertory Philippines is staging the dark comedy Arsenic and Old Lace from April 6 to 29 at the OnStage TheaterGreenbelt 1Makati City.

Official synopsis:

The story follows Mortimer who seems to be living a happy and perfect life with a steady job in a prestigious New York publication and a new engagement. As he goes to see his aunts, he uncovers family secrets that turn his world upside down. With his delusional brother’s surprise visit, Mortimer must now protect his fiancée and his family, all while trying to save his own sanity.

Arsenic and Old Lace is a famous and exceptional play originally written by American playwright Joseph Kesselring which was written in 1939. It further gained popularity when it was adapted to film that starred Cary Grant and by the award-winning and critically acclaimed director Frank Capra.

Now, Repertory Philippines’ adaptation will be Jamie Wilson’s directorial debut and will feature Joy Virata as Abby Brewster, Jay Valencia Glorioso as Martha Brewster, Barbara Jance as Elaine Harper, Jeremy Domingo as Teddy Brewster, Nelsito Gomez as Mortimer Brewster, Sheikh Abraham as Jonathan Brewster, Luis Marcelo as Officer Brophy, Gabe Mercado as Lt. Rooney, Dingdong Rosales as Officer Klein, and Robbie Guevarra as Dr. Einstein.

I’m certainly excited for this show. I’ve seen Joy Virata’s amazing direction in Silent Sky and I’m very interested in what she can bring to the table in terms of acting. Jamie Wilson has a very prolific career in acting and it would be a huge challenge for him in terms of transitioning into directing. What he was able to communicate using body language will now be the responsibility of the cast and it would be interesting as to see how much they adapt from the amazing actor.
