Answering the selfie needs of the country that has the most selfies, wefies, and twofies, Asus Philippines took off the wraps for the latest smartphone to cover more than just the basics of what a selfie might need.
Meet the Asus Zenfone 4 Selfie
The highlight of the show here will be the dual camera setup of 20MP + 8 MP complete with LED softlight flash to aid in dark situations.
This front-facing shooter allows for better detailed shots, better quality photos from an Asus phone to date (apart from the Pro version which will be covered in another article.
Details and clarity will, of course, rely on the 20MP primary front facing camera. Shots are color accurate, highly detailed with the option to add filters and adjustments thanks to Asus’ proprietary beautification mode.
What’s even better is that the secondary 8MP wide-angle camera acts as a point of reference for depth of field should you want to activate portrait mode that expertly bokehs the background for you to allow for more focus. In case you have more friends to join in on the fun, the secondary camera flies into action to either allow more space for more people or to include more of the scenery whatever the case.
The 16MP main shooter will give you all the expected shots from a mid-ranged device with some struggles in keeping it clean in low-light scenarios. Everything else will keep the same quality as expected.
In order to keep the Zenfone 4 Selfie affordable it will not feature the dual glass panels like that of the Zenfone 3 or the Zenfone 4. Rather, the Taiwanese manufacturer opted for the tried and tested aluminum backing with plastic caps for the top and bottom portions for signal reception. The matte finish will be prone to scratches which makes the included jelly case in the box a handy tool to protect your phone until you find a third-party manufacturer.
Button placements are a standard affair with the volume rocker above the power/wake/lock button on the right panel. The sim tray slides out of the opposite end with dual SIM option and a dedicated slot for the microSD card. Speaker grilles will flank the microUSB port at the bottom. The 3,5mm headphone jack sits up top with a secondary microphone pinhole for noise cancelling that doubles as audio pickup while recording videos.
Taking into consideration those that may not have the chops to churn enough dough for the Zenfone 4 Pro, much less the Zenfone 4, Asus is keeping the Zenfone 4 Selfie within reasonable processing capabilities considerign its price.
We can start with teh Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset paired with Adreno 5050 GPU amd 4GB of RAM with just enough breathing room for casual to moderate apps and games.
The standard 64GB of memory will suffice to support your trigger happy self. In case that’s not enough the memory card slot is expandable to a whopping 2TB microSD card (that’s if you can find one.)
Set at 720p the Zenfone 4 Selfie will not have the clearest reproduction of media considering that we’re already breaching 2k quality. It’s meant to keep costs and power consumption to a minimum considering its battery size.
Speaking of battery, the Selfie will only pack about 3,000mAh of juice which should be enough to last you through a good day’s casual use. This is specially considering the power-efficient processing capabilities as well as a conservative screen resolution.
Retailing for Php 13,995 or 270 USD, the Zenfone 4 Selfie is a compelling device to command you selfie game considering that options that provide similar capabilities like the OPPO F3 is priced much higher for almost equal specifications.
The Zenfone 4 Selfie will come in Deep Sea Black, Sunlight Gold and Rose Pink. Purchases for this unit will come with a free limited edition Gong Yoo A4 poster. Available now in all Asus concept stores and partner establishments.
